WELCOME TO CHUMP TOWN : EPISODE IV, A NEW JOKE

You are an "Un-named Protagonist". You could be anyone.

You probably are anyone.

You've lived in Chump Town for many years, but things
have been getting worse. Attitudes are changing. Sense
is becoming less common. Logic seems illogical. It feels
like there is an uprising coming; the general unrest in
the unsatisfied and displeased population grows day by day.

It's as if you cannot even buy an egg without taking out
a bank loan any more.

But you feel there is more to it than simple political
malpractice. You've heard the rumours of a secret, shadowy
race who work behind the scenes. Their name, "the Poodan",
is whispered in hushed tones. Like weavers of fate they control
the world, their fingers deep in the pies of decision making.
Their influence know no bounds. And their influence emanates
from right here in the heart of Chump Town.

You know this sounds crazy, right? Like some big conspiracy
invented by people with far too much time on their hands?

Maybe it is just that? But you have noticed the trends.
It's all a negative spiral of unhappiness and disapointment
that has been blossuming like a cherry tree on a golf course.

It cannot just be coincidence, can it? It cannot just be a
paranoid conspiracy, right?

One day though, you realise that you have had enough.

You sneak into the secret lair of multi-billionaire
industrialist, Leon Husk; a man with all the influence money
can buy. Once you go through those doors into his base of
operations you find plans for a Mobile Autonomous Numpty
Golem Army, or M.A.N.G.A. for short. These clay clones of a
great and respected leader (in his own mind) from Chump Town's
past will patrol the streets and make things good again.

They'll sort things out.

You doubt it all. It seems like the machinations of a madman.

Seeing these clones... everywhere makes the decision an easy
one for you. No-one is safe. No-where is safe! You have to
leave the planet and go somewhere untouched by the Poodan,
Chumps and Leon.

You'll steal a rocket. You might have to assemble it yourself,
but it should be easier than Swedish flatpack furniture.

And then you'll leave. But you'd better expect a fight. It
never is as easy as you'd like...

Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction, with surreal elements
of parody and satire. The conspiracy within the game is simply
a fictional one, and the actions and representation of the
characters within this game should not be taken to be
indicative of any real world personalities, people or events.

It is just a game.

Loading the game:

This game is supplied as a virtual tape file (.tap). In most
ZX Spectrum emulators you are able to attach this as media,
type LOAD "" and start the virtual tape.

There may be ways to get this onto a physical tape, or to be
loaded into an actual ZX Spectrum (or the new THE Spectrum by
Retro Games) but I've not tried this, and google is probably
your friend there.

Controls:

O = LEFT, P = RIGHT, M = JUMP / FIRE, H = PAUSE

This game has been created using MPAGD which was created by
Jonathan Cauldwell. Tunes have been added (128K version) using
MPAGD Musicizer which was created by David Saphier. 48K jingle
tune added via Beepola which was created by Chris Cowley.
128K music was created using Vortex Tracker II which was created
by S.V.Bulba. Loading screen and tape edits were done using
ZX-Paintbrush, ZX-Editor and ZX-Blockeditor created by Claus Jahn.

Enterprise version (available as part of a collection of my games
for the Enterprise 8-bit computer) was made possible by Noel Persa.
(Thank you for all the work you have done, and continue to do
with bringing the Enterprise engine for AGD up to date, stable,
enhanced and bug-fixed. Without your work, the Enterprise version
would simply not be possible. Thank you!)

Thank you to everyone who created the tools I've used and then made
them available so that fools like me could create games like this.
Without you all. This would not have been possible.
